2019 Positive Feedback Repository

Since early 2018, I realized how important it was to remember the positive aspects of teaching and what I am doing for my students. It’s easy to get bogged down by questions, complex issues, and the repetitiveness of grading, which is why I created my positive repository to help me remember all of the good that I do for my students and what I help them accomplish. Last year, I had an astounding 31 students specifically leave me glowing feedback in after-class surveys or on the final day of a class as a private message or email, which can be found here: 2018 Positive Feedback Repository. Many students don’t leave comments, but those that do, I want to be sure to treasure them so that I can enjoy them whenever I need a little “pick me up.”

This is why I teach. This is my goal – to help my students grow, develop important skills, and become more confident students so that they can be successful in their education – thus leading to even greater success in their future careers. Thank you to all of my students for your comments. Please know that I appreciate every one of them!

February

Student 1: Jenny Mark is a great instructor . She is very hard but she will help you become a better writer.

Student 2: Professor Mark was very encouraging in helping me to improve.

Student 3: I learned a lot and will be able to use these skills in other courses

Student 4: Good Evening Professor Mark,

I would like to thank you for a great 8 weeks. I was nervous and lacking confidence about starting back up school again after over 20 years. I jumped in my first term with your class and His 200 and well needless to say both writing heavy and well many curse words later… I feel pretty great at this point … my hard work is paying off…. . As right now I am an A in His 200…putting finishing touches on that final essay.  I read all your feedback.. and I hope with each assignment it showed.. I compared my assignments before final submission to the rubrics.. which I think I have said before rubrics are really awesome!

I know what I have learned through this class it will carry through the rest of my academic career here and in my professional career… as in every avenue of life there is writing! Thank you!

Student 5: Woohoo this is my finial paper!! I have learned so much in your class. I have wrote this paper about 3 different times to try and get to flow correctly. I spent so much time editing and revising this paper. Your class has taught me so much this is my first college English class with a little help from my mom (College prof.) I learned a lot about myself and the English language. You have been great!

Student 6: The best instructor I’ve had so far hope all my remaining instructors are like her.

Student 7: It was a great course even though English Comp is not my favorite class. Mrs. Mark made the class enjoyable and I believe that I learned a few new things along with brushing up on things that I had already know but have forgotten or don’t use them correctly anymore.

Student 8: Jenny Mark is a phenomenal professor and makes online learning much easier. She provides great feedback is available to answer questions in a timely fashion and is very encouraging.

Student 9: Overall, the class was good and I did learn more about APA formatting. It was the second class I have used it in, but going from being taught MLA format my whole life to being told I can only do APA format was definitely new to me. Your class helped me to learn better on how it works and the proper way to format APA.

Student 10: Such a great professor, very kind and friendly. Usually when I email an instructor I feel like I’m being bothersome, but Professor Mark’s tone and words she used to respond to my emails were very welcoming.

Student 11: I really enjoyed this course and believe the instructor did an amazing job with what she could as this was an online course so resources were limited. I will more than likely take future courses taught by her.

April

Student 12: I want to personally thank you for this course. It has helped me so much in ways I will be able to push myself and get me on the right track. This course has been very helpful. Thank you.

June

Student 13: Jenny is great. Available and flexible, she met my needs as I rolled with the punches of life. In return, I gave her my best effort and achieved well in the class. She answered the questions of others with less academic background in a helpful and understanding way, and I’m sure she was willing to meet every student where they were. Still, she upheld an excellent and high standard. Like any good teacher, she was most concerned with helping every student get the most education out of her course, regardless of their level of English proficiency or knowledge. That’s a great quality for an ENG200 teacher.

July

Student 14: This whole course has been such an enjoyable learning experience.   Professor Mark has been amazing, I could not have asked for a better teacher.   She has been so engaged and informative.   I believe it is because of her taking the time with all the details that I am learning so much.   Everyone has been really engaged and helpful on this discussion board, and I have enjoyed reading others work with the peer reviews.   I am happy with how much my writing skills are improving.   It has been a lot of work in a short time but it has been worth it.   I have learned a lot, way more than I knew coming into this course.   I will continue to practice my weakness in grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure.

Student 15: Prof. Mark has been one of the most understanding and patient instructors I have ever met (online). If I needed something answered, she was there with a prompt answer. Every essay I wrote in this class felt slightly similar to lesson planning as a teacher. From writing to interacting, everything we learned will be knowledge obtained for what ever I tackle in life. I can not wait to be able to put my skills to the test and try to work until they are perfect.

Student 16: Professor Jenny provided detailed overview of my strengths and weakness which were backed-up by examples and research materials. I even had the opportunity to speak to Professor Jenny via telephone and she provided me with some valuable insights.

Student 17: The instructor is awesome

Student 18: This whole course has been such an enjoyable learning experience.

Student 19: Usually I don’t like English because I am not very good at this subject. I feel like Professor Mark is the reason I liked it so much because she was so helpful and understanding. Because I actually enjoyed this class I feel liked I leaned so much more then I would have in a class that was no fun. My writing skills have definitely improved and I am glad that I was able to learn so much from this class.

Student 20: Professor Jenny Mark is an excellent teacher. She takes time in grading to help the student learn from their mistakes. She is interactive and available. She provided multiple resources for additional learning. She also made the writing lab and peer reviews required assignments, creating an interactive and productive learning environment. I hope to take another course with her in the future.

Student 21: Professor Mark was a fantastic English teacher and I hope I am able to have her as my next English class professor. I was able to learn so much from this class when normally I have a lot of trouble with this subject and other English teachers. Professor Mark was very understanding and answered any question I had in a very short amount of time.

Student 22: Professor Mark was an excellent teacher and I think if I would have had her during a normal semester and not an accelerated semester, I would have done a lot better than what I did. I believe I would have excelled if at a normal pace instead of the fast pace we had. But all in all Jenny Mark is an amazing teacher and I was glad to be in her class.

Student 30: Jenny, Thank you so very much for being such a great instructor.  You have taken a lot of time sharing sources, giving hints, tips  and feedback, and helping us all work through all of these Essays.  Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

Student 31: Jenny, I love and appreciate the resources you give us. I always find these readings helpful. I actually printed this article out to put my own notes on things I need to work on. “Step 3: Adopt Anti-procrastination Strategies” resonated with me the most. I really need to work on minimizing distractions because I get distracted so easily. I also need to work on prioritizing my to-do list because sometimes I am to focused on certain tasks that should only take a couple minutes and suddenly it turns into a 20-30 minute task or more. Thank you for all the resources you provided throughout this course!

Student 32: Mrs.  Mark, Hello. I hope all is well. I just wanted to say thanks for all your help during this course. It’s been a very long time since I’ve been in school and returning had me both excited and nervous. I struggled getting my footing and there were many long nights and early mornings, however it was all worth it. Thanks again for your feedback, both positive and negative. It was much needed and greatly appreciated . Take care. 🙂

December

Student 43: I just wanted to say thank you, for making learning fun and allowing us to pick our topics. Coming into this class I was convinced this was going to be a read this book and write papers. Thankfully it wasn’t it was fun and I learned about writing but also about vaccinations and different perspectives helping me to be a little bit more open-minded about others’ opinions. I really enjoyed the peer reviews and found them to be really helpful even though the first one I was really pretty terrified of but it helped me with confidence in my writing and helped me build my final drafts, it also lead me to meet L*** who has been a pretty good friend. I would love to say see you next semester but your classes are full! that’s most likely because you are an amazing teacher! Thank you for helping me along on this new chapter of my life.

Student 44: I would not change a thing that you have done. This class has gone better than I thought it would thanks to your tips and support for us. You get back to us as quickly as you can, depending on the time we contact you. Also, not only do you answer the question you give other information that helps to understand it even better and make things less confusing.
